Maple Hill Circuit 3(Gunflint Trail) - View Map of Construction Area
AECI has been working on upgrading the existing Power lines
serving the members throughout the Gunflint Trail corridor. This
next phase of the project will start at the South Brule Road and continue
approximately 5.5 miles North along the Lima Grad Road. Project
start date is estimated to be winter 2007.
Cascade
Rebuild-
View Map of Construction Area
In conjunction with the Cascade Substation
to be built, AECI needs to rebuild the Power Lines in this area.
Nearly 3 miles of Power Lines along County Road 7 and through the Cascade
State Park are being rebuilt in order to serve our members needs.
Headquarters Building & Facility Remodel
In 2007 AECI began to remodel and add on to its headquarters facility along with its equipment areas and other adjacent buildings. The headquarters building is the original building and has seen few upgrades in past decades. This remodel will facilitate and enable AECI to meet local and federal security and environmental regulations.
GIS & GPS System Inventory
AECI will be working on a major inventory project to identify and locate all of our assets in the field. This
inventory will be an ongoing project using GPS and GIS technologies to more accurately locate and maintain
our electrical facilities. This project will begin in late 2005 & continue until finished.
Emergency Back-Up Generation
AECI is served by a single transmission line. This involves substantial risk due to the geography of our
region. When this line is unavailable, all of AECI is without power. AECI is currently working with Great
River Energy (GRE), our wholesale power supplier
and construction has started on a site near the Colvill substation. This
generation would only be used in emergency situations.
