The Blandin Foundation picked-up on an article recently touting the best broadband providers in the Country are right here in Minnesota. Who are they? Rural Cooperatives. Governed by local people and owned by locals owning membership, rural cooperatives continually invest in their community. At Arrowhead Electric Cooperative our Operation Round-Up program alone has invested more than $175,000 back into Cook County non-profit organizations. Each member of Arrowhead Electric Cooperative who participates in the program is directly providing great benefits to a multitude of Cook County non-profits. Thank you all, it’s truly a great program for all of us locally!

It’s not uncommon for Arrowhead to get asked about the common tactics used by incumbent internet providers in Cook County. Specifically, the providers of Satellite, DSL and Mobile wireless (Cellular) internet services and the way in which they provide service and/or bill for service.

It’s been a long time in the making but Arrowhead is pleased to be able to announce our MINIMUM internet offering to our members and to Grand Marais folks is an outstanding 10Mb’s for under $50 a month. In the case that 10Mb’s isn’t up to your liking Arrowhead will easily provide you, your cabin, your business etc…a larger service of 20Mbps, 50Mbps or a 100Mbps. If that’s still not enough ask for 1Gb and we’ll deliver. The wonders of fiber optic are truly becoming a reality in Cook County, MN. This network is being constructed for technology growth, innovation and to support everyone’s effort to succeed here locally.

We’ve had great response to our community broadband project. As we mentioned previously we actually ran out of forms to sign people up at our annual meeting on June 11th. We’ve had a few calls into our office asking if people in Grand Marais can sign-up too – Of course you can! The link to sign-up is available here! When asked for the account number just leave it blank…Thank you to the hundreds of members who have registered thus far. And, if you’re in Schroeder, Tofte or Lutsen be on the look out for our property permission mailer that includes a postage paid response card. We need these returned before we can bring our fiber optic community broadband service to your home or business!

Arrowhead Electric Cooperative began taking member information for those interested in signing up for our priority waiting list late last week. On Saturday, June 11th over 100 people joined our priority waiting list at the Cooperative’s 58th annual meeting. While 100 members signing up is a huge success, the flaw we encountered was that we ran out of forms to sign interested members up! Fortunately, our online sign-up form is available NOW by clicking here.
