Aliya Weisberg represents Arrowhead Electric on Washington, D.C. Youth Tour

Aliya Weisberg of Grand Marais, recently returned from Washington, D.C. where they joined hundreds of students from throughout the country as part of the Rural Electric Youth Tour held June 12-17. The action-filled week gave her and other high school students the opportunity to meet with elected officials, learn about electric cooperatives, tour famous historical monuments, and meet fellow students from cooperatives across the country.

Aliya presented the board of directors with a slide show and shared her Washington Youth Tour experience during the July board meeting. While she was the only student to attend from Cook County, she met 35 other students; they became great friends and continue to be in contact with each other. Aliya shared pictures of the beautiful scenery, monuments, and museums they visited, she spoke of theaters they viewed or attended, and shared what each meant to her. She will continue to share her excitement and trip experience with her peers at Cook County High School and encourage more kids to apply for the trip. Ms. Weisberg thanked the Arrowhead Electric members and the board of directors for the opportunities this trip offered and for the awesome experience.

The Youth Tour is a joint effort of local electric co-ops like Arrowhead Electric, their statewide co-op associations, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
