Rural Co-ops lead the Broadband Charge! The best networks and community investment lead the way…

The Blandin Foundation picked-up on an article recently touting the best broadband providers in the Country are right here in Minnesota.  Who are they?  Rural Cooperatives.  Governed by local people and owned by locals owning membership, rural cooperatives continually invest in their community.  At Arrowhead Electric Cooperative our Operation Round-Up program alone has invested more than $175,000 back into Cook County non-profit organizations.  Each member of Arrowhead Electric Cooperative who participates in the program is directly providing great benefits to a multitude of Cook County non-profits.  Thank you all, it’s truly a great program for all of us locally!

Also of importance is a big congratulations to Cook County’s own Danna Mackenzie on her recent appointment by Governor Mark Dayton  to the Statewide Broadband Task Force.  While Danna isn’t directly connected to the Arrowhead Electric Cooperative fiber to the home project she has undoubtedly been a local champion who has worked diligently to get real broadband into Cook County.  The State of Minnesota has set some of the most ambitious goals in the Country and the Arrowhead Electric Cooperative fiber to the home project will help meet those goals.

Good job! Many eyes are on the Minnesota coops and the leadership they are providing as we try to obtain usable broadband in rural areas.
