Arrowhead Cooperative Looks to Expand Broadband Service

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021

Back in 2009 Arrowhead Cooperative applied for grant funding from the federal government to build broadband in Cook County. After receiving a $16.1 million package of grants and loans, and with a contribution of $4 million from Cook County, the Cooperative built a state-of-the-art fiber-to-the-home network throughout the existing service area. Since 2013 True North Broadband has been providing high speed internet and home phone service to thousands of people in the county. This fall, Arrowhead Cooperative was successful in securing a bid in the recent Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) auction. In order to receive the funds the Cooperative must complete additional vetting by the FCC. Once awarded, the funds will be used to expand both electric and broadband service to unserved areas of Cook County. To learn more about the funding WTIP’s Rhonda Silence chatted with Arrowhead Cooperative CEO John Twiest. Follow the link to listen to their conversation.
